"Secrets of Tomb 10A" at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts

Tuesday, March 9

Start the day off with a 5-course Italian feast at Maggianos, where everyone is family, food is plentiful and delicious! Then we will embark on a journey to ancient Egypt as we tour the Museum of Fine Art's new exhibit "Secrets of Tomb 10A". For the first time since these painted coffins, cult objects, walking sticks, vessels, furniture, and jewelry were placed in the tomb about 4,000 years ago, they have been reassembled and are ready to be shown in their entirety in the Museum of Fine Arts’ exhibition "The Secrets of Tomb 10A: Egypt 2000 BC.’’ Unlock the secrets of the tomb and experience the afterlife as imagined by ancient Egyptians. Journey through the largest Middle Kingdom burial assemblage ever discovered to see the beautifully painted coffin known as the "Bersha Coffin,’’ widely regarded as the finest of its type ever produced, models of daily life, and a superbly realized wooden sculpture of four women standing in procession, carrying offerings on their heads and shoulders. The tomb belonged to Djehutynakht, the governor of the province, and contained hundreds of objects that capture one man’s hopes about death and the afterlife.

 “Late Nite Catechism”

Sunday, March 21

boxngnun.gif (26619 bytes)Call it Loretta Young meets Carol Burnett. This is part catechism class, part stand-up routine. It’s an interactive comedy now in its 15th year.  You, the audience member, are part of Sister’s class, and she’ll take you back to the days of the Latin Mass, meatless Fridays, and remind you about that good old ruler across the knuckles!  Your spine straightens, swear words die unspoken, life is suddenly a serious proposition. When the nun appears in front of the room, Catholics and many non-Catholics too, look anxiously heavenward for lightning bolts aimed at once and future sinners. Even if you didn’t have nuns as teachers, everyone’s heard nun stories, and you had a “strong” teacher at least once, so you don’t have to be Catholic to get the humor . This show will take you back to a simpler time, when you knew exactly what was expected of you – the New York Times calls it, “hilarious, well-written and inspired.”  Enjoy some free time at the Prudential Center for lunch before our 3:00 PM matinee at the Club Café’s Moonshine Lounge.
